Brazil has enacted a new Código Civil on January 11, 2003. This new Código Civil modified the law on foreign investments in various aspects, in particular with regard to (i) the incorporation and maintenance of companies in Brazil, (ii) the rules applicable to limited liability companies and (iii) distribution and agency agreements.
Ricardo Thomazinho will talk about these modifications, describe the traps the foreign investor should be aware of and give advice on how to avoid implications with the new Code. The presentation is addressed to in-house lawyers of groups with subsidiaries or rep offices in Brazil and to attorneys advising such companies.
Dr.iur. Ricardo Thomazinho is a partner of Thomazinho, Freddo, Janduci, a São Paulo law firm that advises medium size and large companies in commercial and international law, in particular with regard to foreign direct investment, financing, infrastructure, governmental bidding procedures and import/export transactions. Ricardo Thomazinho is a professor of law at the University Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado, postgraduate program.
